Let me tell you a little secret about me; something you might not easily discover if you’ve never seen me in person. I LOVE DARK NAIL POLISH.

Black, Red that reminds you of dried blood or deep wine or dark-colored purple that look like bruises are my favorite. I also have a thing for macabre but that’s a conversation for another day.

Whatever the color, if it’s really dark, I only have one response. A response my manicurist has heard so many times that he smiles, “Yes Please!!”

You see, dark-colored nails are my calling card. All would otherwise be well if every time it was time to wipe off the color, my manicurist was always around to get the job done, or I had enough money to pay for the removal.

Unfortunately, I don’t always have the money and Bayo is not always around.

So, what’s a girl to do? Easy, I take it off myself!

Except, there’s that little problem of the nail polish staining the skin around my nails, turning them into whatever color of nail polish I’d wiped off.

Trust me, it’s never a good look when your skin is all red and people are giving you the look of “what on earth did she do over the weekend? And is that… blood???”

Luckily enough for me, I discovered one little ingredient (that is practically in everybody’s house) that works wonders in keeping those nail polish stains far away from your nails and that is Vaseline!

Yes, Vaseline is the magic ingredient to getting clean nails that look professionally done. And even if you don’t have Vaseline in the house, you can use any oils you have lying around: coconut, olive, cuticle oil, etc.

If you don’t have that lying around the house either, you can always use your tried and trusted body lotion!

All you need is something with slip, something slightly greasy, and follow these steps. Trust me, you will be nail-stain-free!

1.  Apply the Vaseline around your nail, paying careful attention to the sides, to underneath the nail, and basically, everywhere you think the polish would reach.

2. Ensure that the Vaseline or whatever oil you’re using is spread liberally, very liberally.

3. Soak a cotton wool ball in nail polish remover and place it on the nail for 10 seconds before slowly taking off the nail polish by pushing up. Remember, you don’t want to rub the cotton wool ball sideways as that will spread the polish and cause extra stains to your nails.

What you want to do is swipe up, starting from the middle and slowly making your way to the sides.

4. Once you’ve removed the color off your nails, soak your hands in warm water. If you have any scented oils, you can add a couple of drops to further help relax you and have your nails smelling nice.Nail polish

And that is it! 3 simple steps to have you nail polish stain-free! So if you’re like me, you can go on painting your nails as dark as you want them, and rest easy that when it’s time to take off the polish, you can do it hassle-free, at little to no cost and with no extra time spent.
