We’ve entered the second part of the year and I don’t know about you but my body’s already started prepping for Harmattan. My skin dries quickly these days and I’ve started noticing some cracks. It’s insane when you think about it, especially when you consider the fact that we’re still in the rainy season, but what can I say? My skin likes to get an early start!
If you’re the same, or you’re dreading the thought of Harmattan because all you can see is whitish dry skin that doesn’t recover its glow no matter how much you oil it, and instead looks waxy until Harmattan is over, then this is the post for you! Just try out these simple steps below and sooner than later; you would be sporting glowing skin that is ready for when the dry and dusty wind comes.
OIL AND MOISTURIZER ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS
Do you know that old saying that oil and water don’t go together? It’s a lie. Especially during the dry months because oil and water and moisturizer are the triple threat combo that your skin didn’t know it needed. Now how do you make them work together? Easy. One, don’t dry out your body completely after having your bath. Leave some of the water on. Two, Make sure you moisturize in the shower before stepping out into the cold and dry Harmattan wind. Some moisturizers have oil in the first five ingredients which should work perfectly for you. But if your present moisturizer doesn’t, don’t lose hope. Simply apply your moisturizer first and rub on some oil to seal the moisture in!
SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR VASELINE
I know, growing up, our parents rubbed Vaseline into our skin during the Harmattan to help “moisturize” our body. Want to know a little secret? Vaseline doesn’t moisturize. It doesn’t hydrate either. So using it is counterproductive. Just stick with your moisturizing cream or lotion and you’re all good.
NIGHT TIME IS MOISTURE TIME!!
After a long hot day in the sun, nothing’s as satisfying as coming home and taking a cold shower. But just before you step out of the bathroom, apply moisturizer and seal with oil again. That way your skin gets uninterrupted moisture all night long and doesn’t have to contend with the drying effects of the sun.
GLOVE IT UP!!
If you notice that your hands tend to get dry a lot, it might be because you wash your dishes by hand, with no form of protection whatsoever. Soaps and detergent can be very drying on the skin which is why we’re advised to use gloves whenever we want to do the dishes and or laundry. It might seem silly to you but trust me, your hands will thank you for it.
PUT A SOCK ON IT
At night, after moisturizing, make sure to pay extra attention to your hands and feet, taking extra care to get in-between your fingers and toes. After you’re done, put some on socks on your hands and feet and then go to help. The heat from the socks will help the moisture sink into your hands and feet, leaving them extra moisturized and ready for the day.
ESSENTIAL OILS ARE ESSENTIAL
If you’re fond of taking baths, add a couple of essential oils to your bath. Not only would the fragrance help you relax as you soak in, but the oils would also help moisturize your skin, leaving it glowing and smooth.
ALL ABOUT THAT SAUNA LIFE
Finally, visit once in a while to the nearest sauna. Not only do they work wonders with flushing out toxins from the body, but they also increase blood flow due to the heat, and blood flow works wonders for giving your skin a beautiful glow.
If you need a ride getting to the closest sauna to you, Gatekrasher’s Hitch A Ride offers you a prompt, affordable cab-hailing service with a meter system that puts total control of your trips in your hands.
